Business Catalyst Site Traffic Analytics

Your Business Catalyst website hosting solution comes with a built-in site traffic analytics module. This allows you to see visitor statistics for your website via a range of useful parameters, from the Admin side of your website. Our testing of this reporting tool against the industry standard, Google Analytics, has shown that it produces near-identical results and so we consider it very reliable.

To access this information, log in to the Admin area of your website. (For help with this click here)

In the admin landing page click on "Reports" in the left menu panel.



The top three items in the Reports submenu relate to website traffic -- Visitors, Traffic Sources and Website content. Theses three sections have their own subsections which we'll explore briefly.

Visitors

This section shows stats about your visitors themselves, including comparisons of visits to page views, number of unique visitors and visitors' geographic locations. Each of the menu headings outlined in red below can be used to access more detailed information.


Period Filter

In any of the traffic report areas, you can select the time period over which stats can be displayed using the "Filters" dropdown:

You can view details of any graph, both on screen and as a downloadable spreadsheet, via the "View All" link to the top right of the graph.

Traffic Sources

This section allows you to analyze the sources of your web traffic including: traffic sources, referrals, search phrases, spiders and search engine referrals.

Traffic source categories

  • Direct Traffic: Visitors who typed your website URL into the address bar of a web browser, or from a bookmark.
  • Referals: Traffic from links to your site on other websites (banner ads, campaigns, blogs or affiliates who link to you).
  • Search Engines: Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. This will include organic and paid traffic.

Web Content

This section allows you to view traffic stats for individual pages on your website, including pages by popularity, entry and exit. This section can provide insights into how effective your website content is in engaging visitors as well as the showing the success of online or email campaign promotions linking to dedicated landing pages.
